Casa Cala Ambolo Presents Views of the Mediterranean Coastline

The home uses its setting to present plentiful views towards the adjacent sea, projecting out in a variety of directions. In order to emphasize the scheme’s location, the house is formed of strategically fragmented elements, which direct and channel carefully selected sightlines. The residence, which rests on a stone plinth, is accessed at its basement via a staircase that leads to the upper levels.

An open terrace connects to a garden area at the rear of the plot, filled with typical mediterranean vegetation, including pine, citrus and olive trees. meanwhile, at the terrace’s opposing edge, an infinity pool presents sweeping sea views.

Internally, the scheme is treated as a singular and continuous space offering abundant views of the home’s impressive surroundings with large windows and doors systems. The ground floor contains a double height living room alongside other days areas. Sleeping quarters are situated above, joined by a continuous balcony that overlooks the swimming pool.

The home’s interior was also designed by Ramón Esteve Estudio, with all fixed furniture planned specifically for the project.

Blue and White Inspirations

No color combination can stand the test of time quite like blue and white. In the South, you can find it everywhere.

Portugal is inspired by their blue and white tin-glazed tile called azulejo.
It can be found across thecountry in many different styles from traditional to modern.

Also windows, doors and shutters have this amazing combination of blue and white. Especially the cobalt color is so vibrant and pretty! That blue is the colour of our sky and sea.

Glazed Walls: Transparent Elements that Create Open Spaces

L-shaped Villa on Northern Italian Coast

Briefed with creating a house for a young family, the architects opted for materials that would be easy to maintain and clean.

A glazed wall on one side of the of the house allows access to a swimming pool and garden area. A second rectangular block runs parallel to the courtyard and houses the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Tiles from a Dutch manufacturer were used throughout the exterior and interior of the property.
Wood was eliminated from the start as the clients felt it created maintenance and humidity issues.
This limitation became a great advantage in the end as they chose to use Mosa's ceramic tile collection, named Quartz.

The house has an L-shaped plan, however, it can be read as a rectangular block as one side utilises a large canopy with glazing beyond, giving the impression of transience to help create this openness the architects wanted to achieve.

All these materials, colours, lighting and landscape are to create continuity and depth across the whole project.

Rio Bonito House by Carla Juacaba

This 2005 project by Carla Juacaba is a weekend home located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It is a crudely elegant structure built to withstand the demands of its tropical environment while providing the owners with views of the nearby river. The proximity of the river has become a determining factor for the party adopted.

Two thick stone walls, supporting four metal beams which support the slabs and floor covering. The weight of the structure contrasts with the lightness of the span, highlighted by two skylights that separate the slab above the structural walls.

On the back wall windows are floor to ceiling tears that give continuity to the horizontal of vertical skylights.

The house down to the floor is protected from moisture and weather, and at the same time allows the view of the river passing by.

Cube-Shaped House Takes In Dramatic Sea Views

It is defined by minimalist architecture and a dramatic location on top of a cliff, 215 feet above the sea. The project in the coastal village of Matanzas, Chile by PANORAMA + WMR Architects was especially envisioned as a holiday retreat for a couple and their son.

The 1,033-square-feet house has a cube-shaped exterior, with large window piercings that frame the views. As you step inside, you will discover an intricate layout, divided in two floors. The first level accommodates a single space for the living room, dining room and kitchen; in the back, there is room for a sleeping area and the second-floor staircase.

The terrace on the first level is cut into one corner to form an L-shaped living area, while the second floor is set on a 45-degree angle, which creates double-height ceilings in the social area.

Even during extreme wind, the inhabitants can spend time on the terrace, thanks to its special design and orientation. All interiors are finished in natural pine and white plaster, for a spacious, inviting feeling.
