Modern Luxury with Charming Character

16th Century Farmhouse in Southern France Will Get a Contemporary Update

The architects at Brengues Le Pavec have set out to modernize this 16th century farmhouse in l’Escarène, 20 minutes away from the beautiful French Riviera towns of Nice and Monaco.  Although the beaches are easily within reach, the home sits on a serene hillside with a terraced olive grove overlooking the valley below.

A contemporary addition on the side of the home will project modern luxury without overshadowing the charming character.

The planned rectangular structure complements the forms used in the original building.  The architects also will use a light, transparent transition to blend the old and new spaces of the home.  Floor-to-ceiling glazing and a modern stairwell with glazed bodyguards provide the perfect intersection.

A Sense of Lightness - Large Glass Windows and Doors

Westcliff Pavilion, South Africa

“What is a wall?” you might be asking yourself the first time you see GASS Architects’ Westcliff Pavilion. Its structure of steel beams and locally sourced stone do the impossible: they float. What GASS calls ‘creative engineering’ has lent this residential project a sense of lightness, which allows the home to peacefully co-exist with the environment.

Aside from the building’s minimally invasive construction, the steel frames facilitate the placement of large glass windows and doors that reinforce the home’s connection with the great outdoors.

A Full Time Home that Feels Like a Vacation

Many people dream of a beachside home where they can retire and spend their golden years basking in the summer sun and ocean air.

But for the lucky few, it is possible to make these dreams come true a bit earlier, as is the case for this
Australian home from the architects at Rolf Ockert Design.

Overlooking the ocean, this house was designed to feel like a vacation home despite its status as a primary residence. From the angular exterior to the sleek furnishings and luxurious backyard, it is a dreamy space that feels like endless summer.

From any angle, the exterior with its stacked levels and warm wood is modern without any of the minimalist foreboding that can imply.

The ocean views are not only aesthetically stunning, but provide cool breezes that filter into the open design and keep the space cool even during hot months.

Glazing from the floor to the ceiling is already a reality! www.mestreraposa.com
